After 50 Years, “She’s Still The One”

As I was waking up on this day before Valentine’s Day, lying in bed, I began to laugh as my mind drifted back to the hike Jean and I went on this past Tuesday around Zwerner Lake, Near Dahlonega. As we were walking around this beautiful little lake, we were laughing and giving each other a hard time when “our song” came on from Jean’s playlist.
As we listened to the words of "You’re Still The One”, we looked at each other and began to laugh even harder, as I am sure both of us were thinking the same thing. "Yes, that is us”!
I’m not sure if you ever listened to the original lyrics of “You’re Still The One” by Orleans
but here is how the song starts out...
“We’ve been together since way back when
Sometimes I never wanna see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You’re still the one I want whisperin’ in my ear
You’re still the one I wanna talk to in bed
You’re still the one who makes me strong
You’re still the one I wanna take along
We’re still having fun, and you’re still the one."
Let’s be real, even the best marriages have their tough times. And whether we have said it out loud or not, we thought to ourselves many times, something to the effect of “I am so mad at you right now; I don’t want to be around you”, or “You’re getting on my nerves, I don’t want to look at you right now.”
I remember back when we got married, how many people who knew me said we would never make it. Well, 50 years later, the only thing I have to say to them is that...
She is still the one who flips my trigger
She is still smokin’ hot
And we are still having fun.
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY, SWEETIE!
