LET ME INTRODUCE Bill Doyle. Bill is what I call a “SuperLifer.” Although he is 91, Bill refuses to let his age define him. GET THIS: I first met Bill while he was on the “treadmill" next to me at Planet Fitness. Bill was wearing a Korean War/Vietnam cap, which piqued my curiosity and sparked a conversation about his amazing life.
BILL VOLUNTEERED for the Army at 19 and served from 1954 to 1962. He was first stationed in Korea and was part of the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Team, where he disarmed and disposed of bombs and explosives that had not detonated after the war. He then went on to Vietnam for a tour.
AFTER RETURNING FROM overseas, he took some classes, married Dorthy, the love of his life, and started at a low-level position in the Department of Space Exploration. Eventually, he worked his way up to administration and was even a part of the Apollo 11 team.
EVEN WITH DOROTHY'S PASSING in 2022 and some health issues, Bill still maintains an amazing outlook on life. He does strength training three times a week at the gym, where he connects with friends and makes new ones. He is always speaks of how proud he is of his son and the good times he has with him and his family. He told me the other day, “I plan on dying at 99 by a gunshot from some lady’s jealous boyfriend.”
REACHING A CERTAIN AGE doesn’t mean we become invisible and sit around watching TV all day. Chronologically speaking, age is just a number, and you can’t change that. But you can change your mindset (Romans 12:2). SuperLifers recognize there is more of the world and of themselves that they can explore. And they do just that.
