Just staying busy isn't enough to prevent the cognitive decline that often comes with aging, we need to be constantly engaging in new activities that challenge our minds.

Researchers found that acquiring three new skills simultaneously not only helps to protect against Alzheimer's and dementia but also enhances creativity and cognitive abilities. They also observed that people who consistently learn new things or engage in new experiences tend to be happier and more emotionally stable compared to those who do not.

I guess a touch of ADHD helps me try new things. Here are 4 of those from this past week.

  1. Completely worked a word puzzle without the help of Google. I have never liked word puzzles! Until now. Besides learning new things, there is a certain level of personal satisfaction with completing it on your own.

  2. Created my own PBS (Personal Breakfast Sandwich) in a skillet. It was made up of eggs, peppers, onions, cheese, uncured ham, and two pieces of bread. I'm talking about experiencing total emotional satisfaction!

  3. Started my first fiction book in over 40 years on Audible. It had been since college that I read a book just for fun. I like sci-fi.

  4. Started building my new blog page. Like most things worth having it is going to be harder and take longer than I thought.

Can you name 3 new and challenging things you have learned lately?
